On 29th July, the Chancellor announced a significant change to the Winter Fuel Payment. This year, it will only be available to those who are in receipt of Pension Credit.
The Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) has confirmed that to receive the full Winter Fuel Payment, new applications for Pension Credit must be submitted by 21st December 2024.

To raise awareness, the DWP is organising a Pension Credit Week of Action from 2nd to 6th September. This is a crucial time to ensure that those eligible are informed and can take the necessary steps to claim their benefits. Claiming Pension Credit can also give people access to additional help with housing costs, council tax, and heating bills.

It’s estimated that around 39,000 households in Greater Manchester are eligible but not claiming Pension Credit which could be worth up to £218 per week for each household.
If you or someone you know might be eligible for Pension Credit, now is the time to check and apply. Don’t miss out on the support available to you.
