Every year in October, Salford marks International Day of Older Persons, raising awareness of the impact of an ageing population, and the importance of ensuring people can grow old with dignity. On Tuesday 3rd October, Salford organisations and residents came together at Salford Museum & Art Gallery to highlight this year’s theme place, recognising that the place where we live has a huge impact on our wellbeing as we age

Over our lifetime there has been many changes from the redevelopment of the docks into the nationally recognised media and cultural center of Salford Quays, through to our well respected university and the wide variety of neighborhoods across our city which has seen considerable regeneration.

What makes your week

Walking, swimming, walk and talk,
Brew and chat, Zumba, volunteering,
Minding grandchildren, food bank,
Meeting new people, walking the dog.

Dancing, fresh air, family and friends,
Art class with Danny at Lombard,
Getting hair done, a touch of style,
These activities, they bring a smile.

In this vast world, with so much to do,
These simple joys, they ring true.
For in each step, in each stroke,
In each conversation, a bond evokes.

The rhythm of the water, the beat of the street,
The laughter shared with those we meet,
The satisfaction of lending a hand,
These activities, they help us understand.

The joy of watching little ones grow,
The warmth of a kitchen, where love does flow,
The art that springs from a creative mind,
These activities, they make life kind.

Walking the dog, in nature’s embrace,
Dancing freely, with elegance and grace,
Breathing the air, so crisp and pure,
These activities, they hold allure.

So cherish these moments, both big and small,
For they enrich our lives, one and all.
In walking, swimming, and heartfelt chats,
In volunteering, where compassion never slacks.

Let’s embrace the joy of giving, of being,
Of connecting with others, of truly seeing.

“It will always be home“
