This report provides a clear and easy-to-understand overview of our findings on frailty in older adults. Frailty is a condition that can make everyday tasks more difficult and increase the risk of falls, illness, and hospital admissions. In this report, we explain what frailty is, how to recognise the signs, and the factors that contribute to it.
We discuss the key causes of frailty, such as poor nutrition, lack of physical activity, and chronic health conditions. Our findings also highlight the importance of early detection and how frailty can impact the overall health and independence of older people.
This report focuses on the data and insights we have gathered, offering a deeper understanding of frailty and its effects. It provides valuable information for carers, families, and healthcare professionals, helping to improve awareness and inform strategies for supporting older people at risk of frailty.

Each year, on 1st October, we celebrate International Day of Older People to honour the contributions of older people in our communities.
We have record numbers of over-50s in work and contributing to the growth of our economy. People aged 50 and over are the most likely to volunteer, vote and provide unpaid care. But often the part that older people play to their communities is overlooked, undervalued and underappreciated.
This year’s theme, ‘The Part We Play,’ shines a light on the vital roles older people have in shaping and supporting their neighbourhoods.
To mark the day, we partnered with seven community venues across Salford, each hosting their own unique celebration. Together, we’ll explore the incredible impact older people have, and the lasting difference they make in building stronger, more connected communities."

The COVID-19 pandemic highlighted many challenges faced by older adults, from health concerns to increased isolation. In response, this project aimed to develop age-friendly communities that better support older people in a rapidly changing world.
This report details the steps taken to create environments that encourage active ageing, independence, and social inclusion. We worked closely with local authorities, community organisations, and healthcare providers to ensure the needs of older adults were met. Our focus was on:
Improving digital literacy: Many older people struggle with technology, which became vital during the pandemic for communication and access to services. We ran workshops to help older adults become more comfortable with digital tools.
Enhancing accessibility: We assessed public spaces to ensure they were accessible and welcoming for older people, making necessary improvements to infrastructure.
Reducing social isolation: By encouraging intergenerational activities and creating support networks, we aimed to foster connections that help reduce loneliness among older adults.
The report provides insights into what worked well and the areas that require further development. It also offers recommendations for future initiatives aimed at building resilient, age-friendly communities that support the well-being of older people in a post-pandemic world.

Winter, Wellbeing
Salford has one of the highest rates of falls causing injury and requiring hospital admission amongst older people in Greater Manchester. Falls are serious at any age, but breaking a bone after a fall becomes more likely as we get older. Even if a bone is not broken after a fall, people become fearful of falling again and this may limit the amount of activity a person feels they can do. However, falls are preventable and this booklet has been put together to help you as an older person or someone who looks after an older person to reduce the risk of falling. This booklet sets out six steps to reducing the risk of falling and provides some top tips and links to support.
