The International Day of Older Persons aims to raise awareness of the impact of an ageing population and the need to ensure that people can grow old with dignity and continue to participate in society as citizens with full rights.

This International day of celebration is a global celebration of the wisdom, achievements, and rights of the elderly, held every year in October. In Salford we are proud of our rich heritage and contribution that our older residents have made in helping Salford become the strong community. The International Day is recognised each year with a theme and this year the theme is “Our Place” recognising the people and places which are important to us.

Over our lifetime there has been many changes from the redevelopment of the docks into the nationally recognised media and cultural centre of Salford Quays, through to our well respected university and the wide variety of neighbourhoods across our city which has seen considerable regeneration.
