Reflecting on an Inspiring 3-Day Experience in Salford
Age Friendly Salford had the privilege of hosting some EY Foundation placements, who spent three days with Inspiring Communities Together. During this time, they gained invaluable insights into the vibrant community of Salford. One of the highlights was engaging with the older residents and listening to their fascinating stories, which truly enriched their understanding of the community’s history and culture.
During their time, Andrea from Inspiring Communities Together introduced them to the concept of “Tech and Tea.” This initiative empowers individuals over 50 to navigate technology, helping them connect with loved ones and access the internet. Over five weeks, volunteers dedicate an hour each session to assist participants, with a nominal fee of £30 for a tablet that can be refunded at the end of the programme if they don’t want to keep it.
They also learned about the “Brew and Chat” sessions, which provide a wonderful opportunity for community members to meet, share experiences, and discover local activities.
Yesterday, alongside a fellow member of the EY Foundation, they participated in a community walk. Initially questioning the significance of these walks, they soon realised they serve as a vital platform for residents to explore Salford’s rich history, discover new places, and stay active while fostering connections with one another.
This experience has deepened their appreciation for the community spirit in Salford, and they look forward to continuing to engage with these inspiring initiatives.
