Thank you for joining us on Thursday 1st October at MediaCity for Salford’s International Day of Older People Conference. It was fantastic to welcome 100 older residents, community organisations, partners and professionals together to celebrate both Salford’s centenary year and 10 years as an Age Friendly City.

The conference was an opportunity to reflect on the many contributions older people make to life in Salford, while looking ahead to how we can continue building neighbourhoods where people can age well, stay connected and live fulfilling lives. Throughout the day, we heard inspiring contributions from keynote speakers, local residents, community leaders and partners, all sharing their experiences, ideas and ambitions for the future.

Highlights included the screening of On Our Doorstep, presentations from older residents, a lively panel discussion on Live Well Places and Spaces, and a range of interactive workshops exploring themes such as health and wellbeing, mobility, community connections and ageing in place. These discussions generated valuable insights and reinforced the importance of listening to and learning from the experiences of older people.

Most importantly, the conference celebrated the knowledge, skills, resilience and community spirit that older people bring to Salford every day. Their voices remain central to shaping Age Friendly Salford and influencing the work of partners across the city.

In this newsletter, you’ll find highlights from the day, including short films, the workshop summaries and reflections on Live Well in Later Life. We hope it helps you reflect on the discussions, reconnect with ideas that inspired you, and continue the conversations started at the conference.

Thank you once again for attending and helping to make the day such a success. Together, we are creating a Salford where people can age well, live well and feel valued.

“It was a fantastic day. I came away feeling listened to, inspired and proud of what older people contribute to Salford every day.” “
